Organizers of the Thrifty Foods Youth Golf Clinic, which coincides with PGA Tour saʴý’s Bayview Place Island Savings Open presented by saʴý stop, say there is still plenty of room for young golfers to participate.

The May 31 event, at Uplands Golf Club, is run in partnership with UVic Vikes golf program and features four 1.5-hour clinics taught by PGA Tour saʴý players, Uplands staff and members of the Vikes men’s and women’s teams and alumni.

Sessions for juniors from the ages of 6-16 cover all elements of the sport with driving, chipping and putting with groups split up on a rotational basis, said Chuck Pusateri, one of the volunteer organizers.

“[Uplands head pro] Ian Stone is great with the kids and the Vikes really get into it, too,” said Pusateri. “This is all about fun and a great introduction to the game.”

The $30 registration fee includes the instruction, two passes to the tournament, a hat and T-shirt, golf balls, snacks and a group photo. One registrant from each clinic will win a chance to walk with the pros during the tournament and a second will win one free golf lesson at Uplands.

The clinics are set to begin at 11 a.m. and carry through until 5 p.m. Participants can bring their own clubs or clubs will be provided on site. The registration deadline is May 28 and anyone interested can go to govikesgo.com/TFYouthGolf to secure a spot or call 250-472-4772 for more information.
