Top U-18 curlers ready to battle for sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ titles at Juan de Fuca

The best young curlers from around the province have descended on the Juan de Fuca Curling Centre for the 2019 sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ U-18 championships, which run today through Sunday.

The best young curlers from around the province have descended on the Juan de Fuca Curling Centre for the 2019 sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ U-18 championships, which run today through Sunday.

Island representation on the boys’ side includes the Victoria Curling Centre rink of skip Daniel Sammons, third Erik Rankin, second Nathan Sneek and lead Bailey Nicholl. The Connor Deane rink, comprised of Tunnel Town, Nanaimo and Duncan curlers, includes third Mack Ellis, second Troy Cowan and lead Sam Hudson.

The other boys’ rinks competing in the U-18 provincials are the Erik Colwell foursome from Vernon, Kamloops and Invermere; the Connor Kent foursome from Port Moody and Richmond; the Alex Duncan-Wu foursome from Royal City and Port Moody; the Hayato Sato rink from Royal City; the Bryan Yamada rink of Kamloops; and the Johnson Tao foursome from Richmond and Abbotsford.

The boys’ draws today are at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. The draws are at 1 p.m. at 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday. There are single draws on Friday and Saturday at 1 p.m. with the championship game on Sunday at 10 a.m.

Island representation in the girls’ U-18 provincial championship competition includes the Gracelyn Richards rink from the Comox Valley, that includes third Chanelle Meeres, second Keelie Duncan, lead Bryn Woloshyn and fifth Sarah Hassall.

The Rebecca Douglas rink from Port Alberni, Parksville and Duncan includes third Brooke Reintjes, second Michaela Morrill and lead Delaena Reintjes.

The combined Delta Thistle and Juan de Fuca rink consists of skip Elizabeth Bowles, third Kayla Wilson, second Sasha Wilson and lead Hailey Dubois.

The other girls’ rinks competing are Maya Belway from Salmon Arm; Kaila Buchy of Kimberley; Holly Hafeli of Kamloops; Sarah McCrady of Langley; and Jensen Taylor of Royal City in New Westminster and Tunnel Town.

The girls’ draws today are at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. The draws are at 1 p.m. at 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday. There are single draws on Friday and Saturday at 1 p.m. with the championship game on Sunday at 2 p.m.

The boys’ and girls’ winners will represent sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ at the Canadian U-18 championships April 2-7 in Sherwood Park, Alta.
