If the weather wasn鈥檛 hot enough itself, things are definitely going to heat up at Duncan Meadows Golf Course this week as some of best players in the country invade the beautiful track just north of Duncan.

And all eyes will likely be on the 8:51 a.m. grouping as defending champion Taylor Kim is paired with defending sa国际传媒 Mid-Amateur champion and Port Alberni resident Christina Proteau and former Alberta senior women鈥檚 amateur champion and runner-up at last week鈥檚 sa国际传媒 Women鈥檚 Mid-Masters Championship at Cowichan Golf and Country Club, Jessica Luciuk.

Kim, the 20-year-old Kent State University senior from Surrey, won last year鈥檚 event in Kamloops rather handily, but should be pressed this week by the likes of Proteau, who will also compete in the U.S. Women鈥檚 Amateur later this summer in Portland; Fairwinds member Shelly Stouffer, who won last week鈥檚 sa国际传媒 Mid-Masters title at Cowichan; Nanaimo鈥檚 Jackie Little, who won last week鈥檚 sa国际传媒 Senior Women鈥檚 title at Cowichan; perennial power and Victoria Golf Club member Alison Murdoch, who was runner-up to Little last week and also the sa国际传媒 Super Seniors winner; national development team member Naomi Ko of Royal Colwood; and former UVic Vikes star Meagan Woodland.

The tournament, which begins this morning, is four rounds with a cut after the second round. The top three finishers will represent sa国际传媒 at the 2015 Canadian Women鈥檚 Amateur, which goes July 27-31 at Riverside Country Club in Saskatoon.

CHIP SHOTS: It was also announced recently that Duncan Meadows will play host the 2018 Canadian Men鈥檚 Amateur Championship.
