Kyle Lowry, DeMar DeRozan and company are coming to Victoria.
The Toronto Raptors of the NBA will be hosting their 2017 training camp at the CARSA facility on the campus of the University of Victoria.
The official announcement was made today by the Raptors in Toronto.
鈥淲e鈥檝e been working on this for a couple of years,鈥 said UVic athletic director Clint Hamilton.
鈥淚t鈥檚 exciting and it鈥檚 affirmation again about the quality of CARSA.鈥
The Raptors will be at CARSA Sept. 26 to 29, and will have an intra-squad game open to the public on Sept. 28.
Last season, the Raptors held their training camp in Burnaby, followed by a preseason game at Rogers Arena in Vancouver.
The last NBA training camp to be hosted in Victoria was when the Vancouver Grizzlies held their preseason workouts at the Naden base gymnasium in Esquimalt in 1998.
The Raptors have captured a following across the country as Eastern Conference contenders.
鈥淣o question about that,鈥 said Hamilton. 鈥淭his is going to be great for the community.鈥
