Two Island teams reach sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ high school girls' basketball finals

The boys’ sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ high school hoops championships begin Wednesday at the Langley Event Centre with the Sweet Sixteen round.

The SMUS Blue Jags and PCS Pacers made runs to the finals in the sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ high school girls’ basketball championships over the weekend at the Langley Events Centre before falling just short of provincial crowns.

The Abbotsford Panthers defeated the Blue Jags in the Triple-A championship game and the Mulgrave Titans of West Vancouver outlasted the Pacers in the Double-A final.

The Riverside Rapids of Port Coquitlam won the Quad-A championship. The Island-champion Claremont Spartans made it to the quarter-finals before losing in overtime to the top-seed Walnut Grove Gators of Langley in the game of the Quad-A tournament.

The boys’ sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ high school hoops championships begin Wednesday at the LEC with the Sweet Sixteen round.

The Island-champion and No. 2-seed Oak Bay Bays begin their championship quest against the No. 15 Prince George Polars. The Island runner-up and provincial 12-seed Claremont Spartans will take on the No. 5 Kelowna Owls.

The Island-champion and No. 2-seed Dover Bay Dolphins meet No. 15 Caledonia to open the boys’ Triple-A championship tournament. The No. 11 Alberni Armada are up against the No. 6 North Delta Huskies and No. 12 Wellington Wildcats of Nanaimo against the No. 5 Lord Byng Gray Ghosts of Vancouver.

Island-champion and top-ranked Brentwood College opens in Double-A against No. 16 Archbishop Carney. The No. 6 John Barsby Bulldogs of Nanaimo face No. 11 Khalsa School and No. 7 Lambrick Park Lions meet No. 10 Langley.

In Single-A, the Island-champion and fourth-seed Nanaimo Christian Trail Blazers opens against Regent Academy while No. 10 Brookes Westshore plays No. 10 Gidgalang Kuuy and No. 14 Ucluelet plays No. 3 Aberdeen Hall.

The quarter-finals are Thursday, semifinals Friday and finals Saturday, all at the LEC.
