Sabrina Sapone鈥檚 even-par 71 helped her secure not only top spot individually, but also carried her University of Montreal Carabins team into No. 1 overall at the 2013 Canadian University/College Championship on Thursday.
Teammate Caroline Ciot turned in a 74 for a three-day total of 223, four shots back of Sapone with just one round to go at Val des Lacs Golf Club near Montreal.
University of Victoria golfers Megan Woodland and Brynn Tomie slid to rounds of 75 and 77 respectively, to sit second and tied for third individually.
Their 222 and 223 totals have UVic in second in the team standings, four strokes behind Montreal. The UBC Thunderbirds are another 17 strokes in arrears as it is now a two-horse race for the team title.
鈥淚t looks like it will be a battle between us and Montreal [today],鈥 said Vikes head coach Bryan Carbery. 鈥淭he girls had some trouble sinking putts today and just in general struggled on the greens. They held it together enough to keep themselves in the top two. It really shows you just how competitive golf in sa国际传媒 is getting now.鈥
Tomie held a one-shot advantage over Woodland overall going into Round 3.
On the men鈥檚 side, UVic 鈥 tied for ninth 鈥 is 42 shots back of UBC in the team competition. Individually, Matthew Broughton shot 73 for UVic for a 224 total, 20 shots back of Ugo Coussaud of Laval.
