The Victoria Vikes opened up the floodgates on both Thompson Rivers Wolfpack soccer teams on Saturday.
Coach Tracy David鈥檚 women鈥檚 team fended off the Wolfpack 3-0 in afternoon play in Kamloops before Bruce Wilson鈥檚 men鈥檚 side rebounded from a Friday tie against UBC Okanagan to record a 5-1 victory at Centennial Stadium.
It was the third straight win for the now 3-2-1 women鈥檚 Vikes as Kiara Kilbey and Stephanie Badilla-Gutierrez scored in the 25th and 45th minutes in the first half. Teresa Anania added a goal in the 73rd minute while Meaghan Storie recorded the clean sheet in goal.
David said the score wasn鈥檛 indicative of the game.
鈥淭hey certainly had the momentum at times in the first half,鈥� David said of the Wolfpack. 鈥淭hey had six or seven corner kicks and they were dangerous. I was proud of our team for being able to sustain the momentum which was going against us.鈥�
It was, however, the third-straight shutout posted against Thompson Rivers, now 2-4-1 in the womens' West division.
In men鈥檚 play, the Vikes defeated the Wolfpack 4-1 to improve to 4-1-2 in the Pacific Division of the sa国际传媒 West.
Craig Gorman fed a through ball to Cam Hundal to score the opening goal just five minutes into the game for the Vikes, but Ryan Glanville tied it up less than a minute later for the Wolfpack and that was all the scoring in the first half.
Gorman鈥檚 penalty kick was stopped by keeper Travis Froehlich midway through the first session but Gorman, Hundal - with a pair - and a Wolfpacks鈥� own goal in the second half allowed the Vikes to come away with the easy win against Thompson Rivers, now 1-3.
