The University of Victoria Vikes basketball teams enjoyed a nice holiday break, but things are about to heat up.

The Vikes begin the second half of the sa国际传媒 West season tonight and Saturday on Ken and Kathy Shields Court inside CARSA gym against the UBC-Okanagan Heat.

The UVic men went into the Christmas break having won five straight games and are likely to make it seven as the Heat men are second-last in sa国际传媒 West with a 1-9 record and have lost seven straight games.

The Vikes are 6-2, but in a tight conference are tied with Saskatchewan for sixth place, behind Alberta (9-1), Calgary (8-0), UBC (8-2), Manitoba (7-1) and Thompson Rivers (7-3).

The UVic women鈥檚 team is also 6-2 and is in fifth place in sa国际传媒 West, behind Saskatchewan (8-0), Calgary (8-0), Alberta (8-2) and UBC (7-3). The Heat women are 1-9, ahead of only 0-10 Brandon.

The women鈥檚 game gets things started tonight at 6 p.m., followed by the men鈥檚 game at 8 p.m. On Saturday, the women tip off at 5 p.m., followed by the men at 7 p.m.
