UVic Vikes sweep UBC Thunderbirds in sa国际传媒 West men's basketball

The University of Victoria men's basketball team notched 70-58 victory at UBC's War Memorial Gymnasium in Vancouver on Saturday night.

The University of Victoria Vikes sent another message with a 70-58 sa国际传媒 West Conference men’s basketball victory over the UBC Thunderbirds at War Memorial Gymnasium in Vancouver on Saturday night.

The Vikes, 5-1 in conference and ranked No. 2 in the national U Sports top-10 poll, swept the home-and-home against the national No. 5-ranked Thunderbirds. The set opened with a 92-80 UVic win over the Thunderbirds (4-4 in conference) on Thursday night at CARSA Gymnasium in Victoria.

Diego Maffia led UVic with 23 points on Saturday after scoring 26 on Thursday. Elias Ralph scored 19 points Saturday after recording 25 on Thursday. Sergio Perira pulled down 10 rebounds for UVic on Saturday as the Vikes overcame an 18-9 first-quarter deficit. James Woods led UBC with 21 points while Brian Wallack added 15.

The UVic Vikes women’s team fell to 0-6 following the 72-52 loss to the Thunderbirds on Saturday at War Memorial. Abigail Becker led UVic with 17 points while Mimi Sigue added 10 points. Hailey Counsell of UBC (6-2) led all scorers with 18 points.

The Vikes men’s and women’s teams host the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack on Friday and next Saturday on Ken and Kathy Shields Court at CARSA Gymnasium.
