This time, the University of Victoria Vikes women鈥檚 soccer team wasn鈥檛 about to let the Fraser Valley Cascades rain on their playoff parade.
Not for a second straight year.
The visiting Vikes toppled the host Cascades 5-3 in penalty kicks after a scoreless 120 minutes of play in the sa国际传媒 West quarter-final late Saturday afternoon.
Victoria avenged a 3-0 loss at home at Centennial Stadium in the 2014 quarter-finals. The two teams met twice in 2015 regular-season play, both ending in ties.
Shannon Elder, Sarah Douglas, Emma Greig, Kiara Kilbey and Stephanie Badilla Gutierrez all made good on their penalty kicks, while Vikes keeper thwarted Shelby Beck鈥檚 effort.
Badilla Gutierrez鈥檚 tally ended it and propelled Victoria to the Select Six tournament in Saskatoon next weekend.
Victoria now becomes the No. 3 seed from the West and will face No. 2 from the East, the Calgary Dinos, on Thursday at 9 a.m. Pacific time.
鈥淲e haven't won anything yet,鈥� said Vikes head coach Tracy David. 鈥淲e don't have a lot of time to prepare. We have to get right back to work.鈥�
In basketball, the Vikes men men dropped an 88-59 result to the College of Idaho Coyotes at the Eastern Oregon-hosted Quinn Classic. Justin Kinnear had 17 points in the losing cause.
In men鈥檚 rugby action, Victoria remains perfect at 6-0 after a 38-15 win over Westshore RFC as the Vikes continue their quest for the Barnard Cup.
