UVic women鈥檚 soccer team pushes unbeaten streak to seven

One of the great sa国际传媒 West rivalries spilled onto the Thunderbird Stadium soccer pitch Friday night in Vancouver. The CIS national fifth-ranked UBC Thunderbirds (8-1-1) and the CIS No. 9 UVic Vikes (6-2-2) tied 2-2 in the women鈥檚 soccer game.

The CIS national fifth-ranked UBC Thunderbirds (8-1-1) and the CIS No. 9 UVic Vikes (6-2-2) tied 2-2 in the women鈥檚 soccer game. Both teams entered the game riding six-game winning streaks, which are now seven-game unbeaten runs.

鈥淲e were disciplined tonight, after falling behind 1-0 early in the game,鈥 said Vikes coach Tracy David, by phone Friday.

Emily Lieuwen and Kiara Kilbey scored the UVic goals, both off corner kicks.

In the men鈥檚 game, the CIS national No. 2 Thunderbirds (7-0-1) defeated the No. 9 Vikes (4-2-2) 3-0. It was the second meeting between the side after a 1-1 tie to open the season Sept. 5, also at Thunderbird Stadium.

The Vikes men continue on the road with games next Friday against UBC-Okanagan in Kelowna and next Saturday against the Thompson Rivers WolfPack in Kamloops. The next Vikes home dates at Centennial Stadium, Oct. 23 versus the Fraser Valley Cascades and Oct. 24 against the Trinity Western Spartans, will conclude the regular season. The sa国际传媒 West playoffs begin with the quarter-finals Oct. 31.

The Vikes women also continue on the road with games in Alberta next Friday against the Lethbridge Pronghorns and next Saturday against the Calgary Dinos. The Vikes return to Centennial Stadium to close out the regular season Oct. 23 against Trinity Western and Oct. 24 against Fraser Valley. The playoffs begin with the conference quarter-finals Oct. 31.

Meanwhile, field hockey this weekend also features the UVic-UBC rivalry, with the Thunderbirds (2-2) hosting the Vikes (4-0) today and Sunday.
