Riley Pickrell of Victoria continued his emergence in cycling by winning his second stage of the 2018 Tour de l鈥橝bitibi in Quebec, sa国际传媒鈥檚 leading the junior men鈥檚 stage race, in which several later-notable riders have competed early in their careers.
Pickrell won the fifth stage, a near 100-kilometre leg from Amos to Val-d'Or, to extend his points lead in the event to 102, which is 14 points more than second-place Taisei Hino of Team Japan.
鈥淥nce we were in the circuit, I knew it would be hard to move up, and if you鈥檙e 20 wheels back, you鈥檙e very unlikely to win the race,鈥漃ickrell said in a statement.
鈥淢y [Team sa国际传媒] mates worked really hard for me to navigate the two roundabouts coming in to the circuit, keeping me in good position.鈥
The final leg is today, following Saturday鈥檚 104-kilometre stage around the streets of Val-d鈥橭r, including an underground section through old mines.
Pickrell is going into Grade 12 at Claremont Secondary and the Canadian Sports School 鈥 Victoria.
