Tyler Welsh scored a short-handed goal late in the first period, added an assist on Nathan Looysen’s early second-period tally and added a third-period marker for good measure as the Victoria Grizzlies keep on rolling in sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ Hockey League play.

The Grizzlies recorded a 4-2 win over the host Salmon Arm Silverbacks on Saturday night to improve to 11-2-2-3 and remain in first place in the Island Division.

Victoria will end its three-game road trip in Trail this afternoon against the Smoke Eaters.

On Saturday, the Grizzlies extended their streak of recording points to 12 times in the last 13 games. The win came after a 4-3 overtime thriller in Chilliwack on Friday, thanks to Cody Van Lierop’s goal with one second left in the first overtime session.

Victoria is now undefeated in six games — five wins and a tie.

Salmon Arm was returning home after a 4-2 loss in Trail on Friday. Tony Rehm made his first start in goal for the Grizzlies after being acquired in a trade from the Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League for goaltender Mitchel Benson. Rehm made 21 saves.

Fellow newcomer T.J. Friedmann also made his presence felt with a goal for the Grizzlies, his first in just his second game, which made it 3-1 early in the third period.

Connor Sundquist and Jared Turcotte scored for Salmon Arm, which cut it to 3-2 midway through the third before Welsh salted it away.

The Grizzlies remain a point up on the Powell River Kings, who defeated the stubborn Alberni Valley Bulldogs 4-3 on Saturday after routing the Cowichan Valley Capitals 9-0 on Friday in Duncan.

The Capitals, who were tied in points with the Grizzlies prior to that major setback on Friday, also lost 3-2 to the West Kelowna Warriors on Saturday.
