It was a good night for firsts for the Victoria Grizzlies.
Spencer Hunter, returning to the lineup after lengthy injury problems, and Brett Stirling recorded their first goals of the season as the Grizzlies skated off with a 3-2 road win over the Merritt Centennials in sa国际传媒 Hockey League play on Saturday night.
Gavin Gould opened the scoring for the hosts at 14:03 of the first period, but Brayden Gelsinger wasted little time getting it back, scoring just 1:35 later for Victoria. The 20-year-old has points in eight of his last nine games. Hunter and Stirling produced their efforts in the middle frame for the Grizzlies who improve to 9-12-0-3. Merritt鈥檚 second goal came from Colin Grannary 1:31 after Stirling made it 3-1.
The Centennials fall to 8-16-0-1.
Victoria heads to Trail for a 3 p.m. start today to wrap up the three games in three days. The Grizzlies then travel to Nanaimo on Wednesday and will be at home Thursday and Friday against Trail and Cowichan Valley, respectively. Cowichan lost 4-3 in Penticton on Saturday as the Vees won their 22nd straight game.
