The Victoria HarbourCats signed their first players ever from Mississippi State University, one of the top NCAA Div. 1 baseball programs.
Bulldogs infielders Harrison Bragg and Reed Smith will play for the HarbourCats next summer in the West Coast League.
Mississippi State has made nine appearances in the College World Series, most recently in 2013 and has produced 52 major-league players and 175 MLB draft picks. The Bulldogs finished the 2016 season ranked No. 11 in NCAA Div. 1 baseball and were ranked as high as fourth mid-season.
Smith is a prize recruit entering his freshman year at Mississippi State. Smith was rated the top Alabama high school shortstop in the 2016 class. He hit .404 with 63 RBIs and 37 doubles over his high school career.
Bragg is entering his first year at Mississippi State as a junior after two years at Tacoma Community College. He hit .355 with six home runs and 44 RBIs in 41 games during his sophomore year at Tacoma.
