Brad Norris-Jones, who announced Wednesday he is leaving the Victoria HarbourCats baseball club after six seasons as GM of the West Coast League franchise, remembers the skeptics around town.
鈥淭hey said we were not going to make it. But we showed everybody,鈥 he said.
鈥淲e put on a great show every night and proved to the city we are here to stay.鈥
He said among his highlights was reaching the 2017 WCL playoff final against the annual powerhouse and six-time league-champion Corvallis Knights, named for the wife of Nike co-founder Phil Knight and main team sponsor Penny Knight.
鈥淲e were one hit away from winning it all against Corvallis, and I wish we had, but that鈥檚 baseball,鈥 said Norris-Jones.
Norris-Jones said there will be an announcement about his future on Friday.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a great time to transition into another endeavour in my sporting life,鈥 he said, without elaborating.
HarbourCats managing partner Jim Swanson said Norris-Jones is leaving on good terms.
鈥淲e want to thank Brad for his six seasons with the team,鈥 said Swanson.
鈥淲e worked very closely together to build a franchise that will be around in Victoria for a very long time.鈥
Swanson said he will be stepping back into the GM role on an interim basis.
The HarbourCats鈥 2019 WCL season opener is June 4 in Wenatchee, Washington, against the AppleSox. The home opener is June 7 against the Knights at Royal Athletic Park.
