The Wenatchee AppleSox laid a soggy 14-2 beating on the HarbourCats before 1,208 fans under threatening skies on Sunday afternoon at Wilson鈥檚 Group Stadium to take their season-opening West Coast League series against the hosts.
Wenatchee won the first game 2-1 on Friday before the HarbourCats rebounded for a 7-1 victory on Saturday night.
Hunter Boyd from the College of Idaho Coyotes maintained a no-hitter through sixth innings Sunday for Wenatchee and ended up with eight strikeouts over seven innings.
The HarbourCats started Washington State Cougars hurler Connor Nantkes out of the NCAA Pac-12 and he got into trouble early and gave up five hits and five runs before being replaced in the second inning.
Ethan Fox, who started on the mound Friday for Victoria, played left field Sunday and contributed with an RBI single in the sixth inning to get the HarbourCats on the board. Colton Peha following with another RBI-single to score the 鈥機ats second and final run of the game.
Victoria鈥檚 defence was shown to be wanting on the day with six errors.
The HarbourCats (1-2) begin a three-game set with the Pippins (1-2) tonight, culminating with Thursday鈥檚 school day special start at 11 a.m., for which more than 2,500 school kids are expected to attend.
Victoria鈥檚 starting pitcher tonight is expected to be Sam Brunnig out of Embry Riddle. Tyler Hilton from Mesa Community College gets the nod on Wednesday, followed by Fox on Thursday.
