The Yakima Valley Pippins handed the visiting Victoria HarbourCats their first loss of the West Coast League baseball season on Saturday night.

Victoria fell to 2-1 on the young season after an 11-4 Pippins victory in the Washington state community. Yakima Valley is 1-1.

Harry Shipley from the Purdue Boilermakers, Kekai Rios from the University of Hawaii Rainbows and Noah Prewett from the University of San Diego had two hits each for Victoria. Connor Whitney took the loss for Victoria and Kade Woods the win for Yakima Valley.

Southpaw Isaac Mullins from the Washington State Cougars started for Victoria and did well in allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits and one walk with three strikeouts over five innings. Both runs came off a homer by Yakima Valley’s left-fielder Michael Russo.

The wheels came off for Victoria in a seven-run, six-hit Yakima Valley sixth inning.

Victoria and Yakima Valley close out their set today ahead of the HarbourCats’ home opener on Monday night at Royal Athletic Park against the Wenatchee AppleSox.
