Victoria rinks begin chase for men's provincial championship berths

Seven teams, all from the Victoria Curling Centre, will compete for two qualifying spots for the Canadian Direct sa国际传媒 Insurance Men鈥檚 Curling Championship, via the Island playdown at Parksville beginning tonight.

Skip Jason Montgomery will get a bye in the opening evening draw at 7 at the Parksville Curling Club.

Geoff Davis opens against Glen Jackson, Neil Dangerfield faces Kevin Dey and Cameron de Jong takes on Wes Craig in Draw 1.

Play then continues with 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. draws on Saturday, the latter will determine the A-event qualifier. On Sunday, the 9 a.m. draw will be followed by the B-event qualifier at 2 p.m.

The A and B winners will advance to the provincial championship in Nelson, Feb. 10-14.

Meanwhile, the Women鈥檚 Open 2 event also begins tonight at the Golden Ears Winter Club in Maple Ridge.

It will be Sarah Wark鈥檚 last chance to qualify for the Scotties sa国际传媒 Women鈥檚 championship as her VCC foursome competes against four other teams for three qualifying spots.

Wark opens against Stephanie Prinse of Chilliwack tonight at 7. The A-event winner will be determined Saturday afternoon, followed by B- and C-event finals on Sunday morning and afternoon.

The Scotties sa国际传媒 Women鈥檚 championship is slated for Jan. 19-24 in Coquitlam.
