The favoured John Morris rink, with Jim Cotter throwing final stones, will look for a berth straight to the sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ Men’s Curling Championship final this afternoon as it faces former Vancouver Island skip Dean Joanisse in the Page 1-2 game (2 p.m. on Shaw TV).

Joanisse, now of the Golden Ears club, edged sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ and Canadian junior champion Tyler Tardi 5-4 in the B-event final Friday afternoon after Tardi had dispatched the Victoria Curling Centre’s Glen Jackson down to the C event with a 10-4 win in the morning.

Jackson rebounded for a 4-2 victory over Tom Buchy of Kimberley to advance to one of two Friday night C-event qualifiers where he defeated Mike Moss of Richmond 7-3. Ken McArdle’s VCC rink downed Tardi 8-2 in the other qualifier.

McArdle and Jackson will now meet in the all-VCC Page 3-4 game tonight at 7, also on Shaw TV. The semifinal is set for 11 a.m. on Sunday, with the championship game to determine the provincial rep for the Tim Hortons Brier going Sunday afternoon at 4. Both games are also televised.

Down 1-0, Jackson — with Andrew Komlodi at third, Corey Chester at second and Joel Cave at lead — scored two in the fourth then stole three in the fifth and two more in the sixth over Moss.

McArdle, with Denis Sutton at third, Darren Boden at second and Glen Allen at lead, came back from a 2-0 deficit after two ends, using steals of two in each of the fourth and fifth ends and another theft of three in the seventh to eliminate Tardi.

The Morris rink, which has an Island flavour with Jody Epp as coach and fifth man, is undefeated so far.
