Maybe they were guilty of looking past this one.
The Victoria Shamrocks lost their first game of the Western Lacrosse Association season Saturday night in Coquitlam, dropping a 7-6 decision to the Adanacs 鈥 a team the locals thumped 14-6 last week at The Q Centre.
鈥淲e were a little bit slow off the start. The offence wasn鈥檛 clicking, but the defence was good,鈥 said Shamrocks coach Bob Heyes, whose team is now 4-1 in the standings. 鈥淚 think we didn鈥檛 have the work ethic required at the start and we ended up playing catch up all night.鈥
Heyes鈥 crew trailed 2-1 and 7-4 by periods; shut-out the hosts in the third, but couldn't find the equalizer.
They will attempt to refocus for a matchup tonight at 6 at Maple Ridge against the Burrards, who defeated Victoria in last year鈥檚 championship final series.
Casey Jackson and Corey Small each had two goals while Cody Nass and Mike Triolo also scored for the Shamrocks.
Mike Krgovich, with a pair, Matt Symes, Reid Reinholdt, Dean Fairall, Matthew Delmonico and Vinny Ricci replied for the Adanacs, who improve to 2-2.
Victoria goaltender Cody Hagedorn faced 35 shots while Dan Lewis made 29 saves for the Adanacs.
The Shamrocks remained without Rhys Duch.
Meanwhile, the New Westminster Salmonbellies downed the Nanaimo Timbermen 9-4 on Saturday at Frank Crane Arena. Colton Clark scored twice while Jake Cullen and Tyson Roe had one each in a losing cause.
