With six days remaining before their home-opener, the Victoria Shamrocks continue to tweak and fine-tune their roster in preparation for the 2016 Western Lacrosse association season.

The three-time defending league champions and 2015 Mann Cup victors acquired the rights to Shawnigan Lake resident Myles Kenny in a trade with the Nanaimo Timbermen on Thursday.

The former Victoria Jr. Shamrock, who also played one game with the Senior A Shamrocks in 2009, has played seven full seasons in the WLA, all with Nanaimo. The six-foot-three, 200-pound defender has 64 points, including 23 goals, in 108 games played.

鈥淗e is an experienced player that adds depth to our back-end group and will make an immediate impact,鈥 Shamrocks head coach Bob Heyes said. 鈥淗e is a veteran defender who will need to learn our defensive system, but I鈥檓 confident he will learn quickly.鈥

To secure 29-year-old Kenny, the Shamrocks surrendered a fifth-round draft pick in 2018 that turns into a fourth-round selection should Kenny be on the active roster on July 1, 2017.

Victoria opens its 2016 campaign at The Q Centre on Friday at 7:45 p.m. against Nanaimo.
