Wheeling and dealing was a big part of the equation for the Victoria Shamrocks in the 2020 Western Lacrosse Association draft held Thursday.

The defending league champion Shamrocks selected seventh and last. They took Nathan Kozevnikov from the Langley Junior Thunder and NCAA Div. 1 Robert Morris University as their first selection. The Shamrocks then traded Kozevnikov to the WLA Langley Thunder in return for former Victoria Junior Shamrocks star Brad McCulley, a first rounder in last year鈥檚 draft.

鈥淲e had an opportunity to bring Brad McCulley home and jumped at it,鈥 said Shamrocks GM Chris Welch.

鈥淏rad was the leading Thunder scorer last season as a rookie [17 goals and 37 assists] and top 15 in the WLA in goals in his first year in the league. We consider this a very good night for us.鈥

The first player off the board was NCAA Div. 1 Drexel defender Reid Bowering by his hometown Coquitlam Adanacs. The Nanaimo Timbermen, picking fourth, chose Junior Shamrocks standout Zach Manns.

The Shamrocks, who didn鈥檛 have a second-round pick, took Brian Robb 19th overall in the third round from the Jr. Shamrocks and the University of Indianapolis. The Shamrocks selected Josh Goble from the Coquitlam Junior Adanacs in the fourth round, Matthew Jung from the Nanaimo Jr. Timbermen in the fifth round, Nick Murray and Clark Pickup of the Jr. Shamrocks in the sixth and seventh rounds and Isaac Richmond of the Delta Islanders in the eighth and final round.
