The Victoria Shamrocks will have to wait until Monday night to find out their Mann Cup opponent and head coach Bob Heyes doesn鈥檛 mind one bit.
In fact, he鈥檇 probably like to see it go to overtime just to extend the two weary combatants even further.
The Peterborough Lakers defeated the Six Nations Chiefs 13-10 on home floor on Thursday, forcing the deciding Game 7 of the Major Series Lacrosse final which determines the Eastern representative.
鈥淚t鈥檚 an extra game of intensity that they have to play which has more opportunities for injury to happen and we鈥檝e been through that the last two years with injuries,鈥 said Heyes, whose Shamrocks bowed out to the Chiefs in the national senior A lacrosse championship the last two years.
鈥淏ut also on the flip side is there is no rest for them. I like the situation, but whatever team comes out here, they鈥檙e going to be good. Whatever team we play is going to be the best team we play against this year, without a doubt.鈥
The winner of MSL series will then have to get on a plane Wednesday as the Mann Cup begins next friday at 7 p.m. at The Q Centre. The Shamrocks, who have won three straight Western Lacrosse Association titles, will be off for exactly two weeks to that point.
鈥淭wo weeks is good. We have guys out of town who can get their commitments in, like Jesse King at school and Dan Dawson at work,鈥 said Heyes. 鈥淭here are a lot of advantages for us.
鈥淭here鈥檚 not a lot of that electricity feeling right now, but that will come. We need to find out who we play first. We have to get our heads wrapped around that.鈥
