Marla Mallett broke open a tight game with two-enders in the sixth and seventh on the way to a 6-1 win over Lindsay Hudyma’s split Vancouver-Victoria rink in the Page 1-2 playoff game at the Scotties sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ Women’s Curling Championship on Saturday afternoon.

Mallett, the 2009 sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ champion, advances directly to today’s 4 p.m. final, which will be broadcast from Duncan’s Glen Harper Curling Centre on Shaw TV.

Hudyma — with Victoria Curling Centre athletes Stephanie Jackson-Baier and Carley Sandwith at second and lead, respectively, and Holly Donaldson at third — will face Diane Gushulak’s Royal City foursome in the 11 a.m. semi-final (also on Shaw).

Gushulak edgeed Sarah Wark’s Chilliwack rink 8-7 in the Page 3-4 game on Saturday night.

Gushulak was a member of Mallett’s championship team in 2009, playing second.

Mallett’s current team, out of the Golden Ears club, includes third Shannon Aleksic, second Brette Richard and lead Blaine de Jager.

Today’s provincial champion will advance to the national Scotties Tournament of Hearts next month in St. Catherines, Ont.
