The first steps on the lacrosse floor were successful ones for the newest team in the West Coast Senior Lacrosse Association.
The expansion Victoria Wolves won its first-ever game late Friday night, wrapping up a 12-3 victory over the Valley Rebels at MSA Arena in Abbotsford.
On Saturday, the Wolves ventured to West Vancouver Arena and lost 8-7 in overtime to the Royal City Capitals.
鈥淕oaltender Cody Cook played incredible, allowing only three goals on 31 shots,鈥 Wolves鈥 team governor Chris Jackson said of his club鈥檚 inaugural game on Friday.
Captain Adam Brown paced what Jackson described as a well-balanced offence with a hat trick in the first win. Adam Donald, Dan Alger and Dane Schoor added two each and the Wolves used a fast-paced, pressure system on defence, creating turnovers and smothering Valley鈥檚 attack, Jackson said.
On Saturday, Cook and Capitals鈥 netminder, Dean Grimm, were both solid in goal.
The game saw several lead changes, said Jackson, with Victoria鈥檚 Andrew McMillan recording a pair of goals and singles coming from James Spence, Chris O'Hara, Max Fredrickson, Scott Slym and Dane Schoor.
Marty Hyde recorded the winning goal in overtime for the Capitals on a rebound that came right back to his stick after a great glove save by Cook, Jackson said.
The Wolves open at home a week from today at 5:30 p.m. against Ladner at The Q Centre.
