Victoria’s Naomi Ko is one shot back of the lead after the opening round of the 2013 British Columbia Junior Girls’ Championship at the Belmont Golf Course in Langley.
Ko recorded a 1-over-par 72 on the 6,013-yard course, a shot in arrears to co-leaders Alix Kong of West Vancouver and Surrey’s Jamie Oleksiew. Madison Kapchinsky of Kelowna is tied for third with Ko.
Shirin Anjarwalla of Nanaimo is fifth, with her round of 73.
The championship is a 72-hole stroke play competition with a cut after 54-holes to the low 35-players and ties. The top two will represent Team sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ at the 2013 Royale Cup Canadian Junior Girls’ Championship at Cherry Downs Golf and Country Club in Pickering, Ont., from July 30 to Aug. 2.
Mark Valliere of Courtenay leads the junior boys championship in Revelstoke with a 3-under 69, one shot up on Terran Berger of Comox. — sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½
