Skip Corey Chester, third Andrew Komlodi, second Sanjay Bowry and lead Deryk Kuny defeated Brock University鈥檚 Eric Bradey 7-3 in the third-place game Wednesday afternoon after losing the semifinal 6-4 to Wilfrid Laurier鈥檚 Aaron Squires in the morning.
Squires went on to defeat defending champion Thomas Scoffin of the University of Alberta 7-4 in the gold-medal game at the Kelowna Curling Club.
鈥淚t feels great to bounce back after a tough day [Tuesday] and bring home some hardware for UVic,鈥 said Chester, whose crew lost two close games on Tuesday 鈥 7-6 to Alberta and 4-3 to Waterloo 鈥 to finish with a 4-3 round-robin record.
鈥淲e鈥檙e proud to represent UVic at its first CIS [national championship] for curling and finish on the podium. We wouldn鈥檛 have made it this far without our coach, Melissa [Soligo],鈥 he added.
The Vikes team qualified for nationals by finishing second at the Westerns, behind Scoffin.
