If the University of Victoria Vikes win their sa国际传媒 West men鈥檚 playoff semifinal game Friday against the Winnipeg Wesman at UBC, the madness will spill over into Scotiabank Place in Ottawa for the CIS national championship tournament March 8-10.
The Vikes (18-6 including playoffs) swept the Manitoba Bisons 2-0 in the best-of-three sa国际传媒 West quarter-finals over the weekend at McKinnon Gym.
The Wesmen (16-9) needed three games to put away the Trinity Western Spartans, topped by Sunday鈥檚 decisive 101-76 victory Sunday in Winnipeg.
The winner of Friday鈥檚 UVic-Winnipeg semifinal at 8:45 p.m. advances to the CIS Elite Eight, as does the winner of the other sa国际传媒 West semifinal between the host and top-seed UBC Thunderbirds and the Fraser Valley Cascades at 7 p.m.
The Thunderbirds (20-5) needed a 96-67 Game 3 triumph over the Alberta Golden Bears (15-10) on Sunday to advance to the semis. The Cascades (12-13) also used a deciding third game Sunday to upset the Saskatchewan Huskies (17-8) by a 92-76 count.
The Vikes remember what happened last year in which they lost in the sa国际传媒 West semifinals at Saskatchewan following a taut Game 3 quarter-final victory over Calgary.
鈥淲e didn鈥檛 expend as much emotional energy this year in the quarter-finals [as last year]. That鈥檚 not a huge factor looking forward,鈥 said Vikes head coach Craig Beaucamp.
