The University of Victoria Vikes feasted on Pronghorn for lunch on Saturday afternoon, devouring the host Lethbridge club 5-0 in sa国际传媒 West women鈥檚 soccer play in southern Alberta.
Victoria improved to 7-2-2 on the season and stretched its undefeated streak to eight games, including a 2-2 tie last weekend that ended a six-game win stretch at UBC. The Pronghorns fall to 2-6-3. The Vikes wrap up weekend play today in Calgary against a strong Dinos team.
On Saturday, fifth-year Vikes midfielder Shannon Elder scored twice while Lindsay Machin, Kiara Kilbey and Mia Gunter each added a goal. Goalkeepers Meaghan Storie and Puck Louwes shared the clean sheet, but the rookie Louwes had to make the only two saves for Victoria.
In men鈥檚 play, the Vikes let a valuable opportunity slip through their fingers, managing just a 0-0 draw at UBC Okanagan. The tie leaves Victoria at 4-2-3 for 15 points while UBCO steadies at 3-4-4.
Neither team managed to score while recording seven shots.
The Vikes, who are trying to catch the University of Fraser Valley for second place in the Pacific division standings, venture to Thompson Rivers today at 2 p.m. UFV is idle this weekend. Thompson Rivers was blasted 3-0 by UBC on Saturday.
