The University of Victoria Vikes women鈥檚 soccer team will put its sa国际传媒 West four-game win streak on the line today against a quality Saskatchewan Huskies side on its own positive run of three-consecutive victories.

Victoria (4-2-1) will play host to the Huskies (5-1) today at 5 p.m., before entertaining the weaker 1-3-2 Regina Cougars on Saturday at the same time at Centennial Stadium.

Coming off decisive 3-0 and 5-1 road wins over Thompson Rivers and UBC-Okanagan, respectively, the Vikes will be harder pressed by the Huskies, who are capable of flashing their teeth, tied with Calgary atop the East Division.

The Vikes are tied for third In the West Division, but have played one more game than Trinity Western. Victoria has out-scored its last four opponents 17-2 over the win streak.

鈥淚 hope we saved some,鈥 said Vikes head coach Tracy David who watched her club come through with easy wins last weekend.

鈥淪askatchewan will be a very good club. It鈥檚 hard to judge because we haven鈥檛 played them in a while, so you lose touch,鈥 David said of both this weekend鈥檚 opponents, who the Vikes have not played in two seasons. 鈥淲hen you play a team every year you find their strengths and any deficiencies they may have.

鈥淏ut this will be a good test for us to see what we鈥檙e made of,鈥 she insisted.

The clash should help build toward the playoffs as the Vikes will finish off the regular-season schedule with tough matchups against UBC, Lethbridge, Calgary, Trinity Western and Fraser Valley, who are all in post-season position right now.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a good stepping stone for us, first off to make the playoffs and if we get through that first round, for the cross-over,鈥 said David, who likes the play of her team over the last few weeks.

鈥淲e鈥檙e starting to gel, come together and understand our roles on the pitch,鈥 she said. 鈥淲hen you figure that out you become a stronger unit. I like the way we鈥檙e coming along, although we still have lots of work ahead of us to get in.鈥

Regina 鈥 which includes second-year forward Brianna Wright out of Edward Milne in Sooke 鈥 should be an easier mark for the Vikes, who can鈥檛 afford to take any team lightly at this stage of the season.

The Vikes benefitted last weekend from the play of fifth-year forward Emma Greig, who recorded six points over the two wins on her way to a third-star nod in sa国际传媒 West players of the week.

The Vikes men鈥檚 team is on a bye this weekend.
