Seven Falcon Gymnastics club members made the trek over to Coquitlam last weekend for the annual Winterfest competition, and nearly needed a truck to bring all their medals home.
The Victoria-area gymnasts — Mia Butcher, Leonie Solomons, Jaidyn Olynyk, Kiana Pheiffer, Abby Stamper, Inez Verdun and Emily Schmidt — combined for 16 medals at the event, which was held at Club Aviva. Leading the way was Verdun, who won the overall gold medal in the Junior Olympic 7, 14-16-year-old competition. Her first-place finish on the beam helped pave the way to her victory. In the same event, Pheiffer collected individual golds on vault and floor.
Ten-year-old Olynyk also had a good weekend, winning gold on vault in the Junior Olympic 7 division.
Schmidt, 15, competed in the Junior Olympic 8 event and earned bronze medal on vault and floor.
Butcher, Pheiffer, Schmidt and Verdun now turn their attention to the Gymnix Classic international meet next month in Montreal.
