Keeping opposing defences off guard is a key component to football.

So, after 542 yards through the air in the first meeting this season, the Westshore Rebels chucked the Valley Huskers a twist to open up the second clash between the two sa国际传媒 Football Conference clubs in Chilliwack on Saturday afternoon.

The Rebels took to the ground to make an initial impression in what ultimately finished up as a 27-22 victory to record win No. 2.

Running back Jordan Worth rambled for 70 yards on the opening play of the game and then capped a seven-play series with an eight-yard touchdown gallop as the Rebels scored early to improve to 2-5 on the season. The Huskers are 0-7.

鈥淔irst play, we popped them on a long run,鈥 said Rebels head coach J.C. Boice, who was pleased with Worth鈥檚 efforts and that of his offensive line.

Westshore quarterback Ashton Mackinnon then picked up a bobbled snap and ran in from six yards out for the team鈥檚 second score for a 14-0 lead in the second quarter.

Noah Rogers and backup quarterback Talyn Davies hooked up for a 13-yard TD pass and Bryce Couture added field goals of 23 and 21 yards to close out the Westshore scoring.

Davies played the second half.

鈥淗e played really well, actually,鈥 said Boice, who wanted Davies to get some meaningful minutes in. 鈥淲e were leaning that way [all week in preparation]. And I thought we did a pretty good job defensively.鈥

The Rebels had bounced the Huskers 45-14 back in Week 4.

Boice said the 27-22 score wasn鈥檛 indicative of the play as second-teamers did get in the game while up 24-7. He also believed his team didn鈥檛 get caught looking beyond the Huskers to a clash in Nanaimo against the Vancouver Island Raiders this coming Saturday.

鈥淲e have had a close eye on the Raiders all year and we want to make that rivalry relevant, but we weren鈥檛 looking beyond this one. Now we鈥檒l go back to work to prepare for the Raiders,鈥 he said.

POINT AFTER: The Rebels are planning a tailgate party and 鈥淢arch to Nanaimo鈥 as they face the Raiders on the road. They are asking fans to drive to the game and to bring their barbecues while wearing Rebels鈥 red. The party is planned for between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at the parking lot just south of Caledonia Park prior to the 2 p.m. kickoff. The Rebels have a limited amount of $10 tickets to the game.
