The sa国际传媒 Football Conference鈥檚 stingiest defence will meet the highest scoring team today at 4 p.m. at McLeod Park as the Langley Rams play host to the Westshore Rebels with a shot at first place overall on the line.
Westshore holds that position at 6-1-1 after a 25-25 tie last week in Nanaimo, while the Rams are 6-2, having allowed just 121 points against. The Rebels have scored 299 for, including a 42-34 victory over Langley back in Week 1.
鈥淲e have a tough one in front of us to be real honest,鈥 said Rebels head coach J.C. Boice. 鈥淭hey鈥檙e really hot right now. They did really well signing kids on the final day that they could on Sept. 15. They picked up some strong kids in the 11th hour.鈥
Included in that group is quarterback Tommy Robertson, who is coming off a 16-for-27 passing performance for 242 yards, including three touchdowns and an interception last week as BCFC offensive player of the week. Robertson has won two straight since joining the club.
鈥淭heir offence is very dynamic. They throw the ball very well and rumour has it Nathan Lund is back healthy this week at running back, so they鈥檙e going to be incredibly tough on offence. They are also probably the fastest defence in the league,鈥 said Boice. 鈥淲e鈥檙e bigger and stronger and faster, so it will be interesting.鈥
The Rebels gave up 328 yards passing last week to the Vancouver Island Raiders and need to buckle down in the defensive secondary if they want to stay ahead of the Rams and also the Okanagan Sun who are 6-2.
Westshore will also needs to limit return man Jordan Lund, who took an errant field goal 111 yards for a score in last week鈥檚 34-10 win over Kamloops.
鈥淭his is another game where we鈥檙e heightened. We鈥檙e going to hopefully wear them down a little bit and sneak out with a good victory. That鈥檚 the plan,鈥 said Boice, whose team wraps up the regular season the following weekend at home to Kamloops.
