Westshore Rebels ready to tangle with Huskers

The Westshore Rebels shocked the sa国际传媒 Football Conference world by knocking off the defending national champion Rams in Langley last weekend in the season opener for both clubs.

But it doesn’t get any easier for the red and white as they get set to welcome the Valley Huskers to Starlight Stadium today (4 p.m.) in Westshore’s 2022 home opener. The Huskers have put together a solid squad this season and are coming off a dominant 31-5 victory over the expansion Prince George Kodiaks last weekend.

The Rebels, led by new quarterback Tim Jessie, who played U Sports football last season for the Carleton Ravens, had an impressive game through the air in Langley finishing 16-for-22 for 222 yards and three touchdown passes.

On the receiving end of seven of those passes was wideout Zion Brown-Dogbe who finished with 111 reception yards. Mike Oliva chipped in three catches for 60 yards for the Rebels.

Running back Gerren Hardisty led the Westshore ground game with 10 rushes for 57 yards.

Today’s game is the first of back-to-back home games for the Rebels, as they will host the Vancouver Island Raiders next Saturday.

The Raiders head into their game today in Kamloops after having lost 50-19 to the Okanagan Sun last weekend. The Broncos had an opening weekend bye.
