Peninsula Co-op Highlanders saw the future Monday. And her name is Summer Clarke.

Clarke scored three goals to lead the Vancouver Whitecaps to a 4-0 victory over the Co-op Highlanders (1-1) in Pacific Coast Soccer League women鈥檚 action on the Lower Mainland.

鈥淸Clarke] is definitely the heir apparent to [Canadian national team captain and Olympic-medallist] Christina Sinclair,鈥 said Co-op Highlanders head coach Dave Dew.

鈥淪he strikes the ball very accurately from a distance, from outside the box and with her left foot.鈥

Dew was not as happy with his players.

鈥淥ur first half was poor,鈥 he said.

鈥淲e didn鈥檛 come to compete.鈥

Peninsula Co-op got some good minutes from substitutes Kristen Livingstone, Abby Rhaymer, Maryse Reichgeld, Emily Stenerson and Sam Lee in the second half.

鈥淲e鈥檙e going to go back to working on the first touch, our decision-making and our competition level,鈥 said Dew.

The Co-op Highlanders FC face Okanagan FC and Kamloops on Saturday and Sunday.
