Casey Wilson kept eyes on the pitch in winning the silver medal with sa国际传媒 on Saturday at the world field lacrosse championship in San Diego. But in the dorm, the eyes were on the computer, watching the Victoria Shamrocks grind to a four-game losing skid without him in the Western Lacrosse Association.

Wilson rejoins the Shamrocks (4-5-1), and not a moment too soon, tonight at the Langley Events Centre for the game against the WLA-leading Thunder (9-1). But the Thunder get back Curtis Dickson, nicknamed Superman, from the Canadian team at the world championships. That will more than even things out for Langley.

“I’ve been keeping in touch with the [Shamrocks] guys and watching all the games,” said Wilson.

The residuals from the world championships, however, are still being felt as Wilson and Dickson goes from country to club.

“It’s a privilege any time you get to put on the Canadian jersey — national team play is the highest achievement in sports — and it’s something I will never forget,” said Wilson.

“It was also a privilege to play on such a star-studded Canadian roster, despite the result in the world final [won 10-7 by the United States]. We showed we are right up there with the U.S. in field lacrosse.”

Wilson was also part of the Canadian team that lost to the U.S. in the championship game of the under-21 worlds last year in Limerick, Ireland.

“I am proud of both my world championships silver medals,” said Wilson.

The Juan de Fuca Minor Lacrosse Association and Victoria Junior Shamrocks graduate plays NCAA field lacrosse for the University of Denver and just missed making the NCAA tournament after a season finale loss to the Georgetown Hoyas.

The adjustment to the closer confines of the box game won’t be an issue this week for Wilson, as the Shamrocks follow up their game in Langley tonight with another Friday night in Burnaby against the Lakers (2-8-1).

“I came up playing box, so it’s more natural to me,” said Wilson. “It’s more an adjustment for me in going from box to field, especially with the switch of positions.”

Wilson is a defensive mid-fielder in field lacrosse and a forward in box lacrosse, where in the latter he helped lead the Junior Shamrocks into the 2022 Minto Cup national Junior A championship tournament in Brampton, Ont.

The senior Shamrocks will be happy for the offensive boost they will be receiving as rookie Wilson rejoins the club this week. They need it about now.
