Manual counterflow will be in place for the Massey Tunnel for four weeks starting March 11.

Drivers taking the George Massey Tunnel and Highway 99 will need to watch out for manual rush-hour traffic control measures starting next week.

Due to system upgrades, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure will be taking the electronic lane-control system offline for four weeks from March 11.

Traffic control crews will be installing the counterflow manually during rush hour on weekdays from 5:45 to 9:30 a.m. and 3 to 6 p.m.

To safely guide traffic, the manual counterflow installation will involve a combination of traffic-control vehicles, personnel and devices such as cones and barriers.

Full overnight closures will take place in April to complete the switch to the new system, and further details will be available later this month.

Drivers are advised to use caution, obey the posted speed limit and watch for traffic-control personnel. For updates on traffic, visit .
