The Victoria Clipper is a private ferry service that runs between Victoria and Seattle harbours.

If you were planning to travel by ferry from Victoria to Seattle, or vice versa, this weekend, you may have been worried about having to make last-minute alternative arrangements.

But the Victoria Clipper and the union representing workers on the Canadian side say they have managed to hit upon a last-minute agreement and avoid a strike over the the Labour Day long weekend.

Unifor Local 114 announced today that bargaining committees for the union and the Victoria Clipper have signed a tentative agreement.

"Congratulations to the bargaining committee and the members who mobilized quickly to get the word out on both sides of the border about their struggle for a fair contract," Unifor Western Regional Director Gavin McGarrigle said in a news release.

A vote on the agreement is scheduled for September 6.

Unifor Local 114 represents 25 workers on the Canadian side of the Victoria Clipper's service. They work in customer service, ticketing, baggage handling and docking.
