The year 1967 marked two milestones for me, one personal, one patriotic. That year I graduated from Oak Bay High School (not significant), and I was swept up by the Centennial fervour (very much so).

Although I did not live in sa国际传媒 at the time of Confederation鈥檚 centennial, I was here that year as two college friends and I drove up to Expo 67 in Montreal from New York City.

1967 brings back so many memories. First, historic background.聽My great, great (etc.) grandfather was the Sergeant-At-Arms to Gen. James Wolfe so we have been here for a long time.

Canadian, British Columbia and Greater Victoria Heritage. I can well remember the 1967 celebration of sa国际传媒鈥檚 100th birthday, especially the performance at Centennial Stadium when the massed bands marched in playing The Maple Leaf Forever.

It is said that sa国际传媒 came of age with its centennial celebrations. If that is so, so did I. I was 17 years old in 1967, and as a high school student, was chosen to become a Centennial traveller.

The big Air sa国际传媒 jet broke through the thin layer of cloud and there was Montreal, spread out in all directions for miles.

In 1965 as a soldier I marched off with the Red Ensign and then returned to salute the Red Maple Leaf flag.
