Four Vancouver Island businesses have been named as finalists for the annual Small Business sa国际传媒 awards that will be handed out in May.

Courtenay鈥檚 Big Foot Donuts, a family-owned company that handcrafts the snack staple, leads the way with nominations for three awards 鈥 Best Youth Entrepreneur, Best Community Impact and the People鈥檚 Choice Award.

Victoria-based Justo鈥檚 Craft Dips was nominated for the Youth Entrepreneur and People鈥檚 Choice awards, while 颅Courtenay businesses Spirits of the West Coast Art Gallery and CORE Landscape Products were nominated for the Best Innovation Award.

This year, 937 companies, 颅representing 88 sa国际传媒 communities, were nominated in the six award categories.

鈥淚 think it鈥檚 clear from the overwhelming number of nominations and the more than 50,000 public votes, that the spirit of support for small business runs strong in our province,鈥 said Small Business sa国际传媒 chief executive Tom 颅Conway.

鈥淭his has been the most difficult year for small business owners and now their communities are standing behind them, recognizing what they鈥檝e been through and celebrating their 颅success.鈥

All finalists will make a presentation about their business to a panel of judges.

That panel will pick the winners, though the People鈥檚 Choice Award is selected by public vote.

Winners will be announced over a three-day virtual gala that will run May 4-6.

Winners will receive $1,500, a short video shot by a professional film crew about their business, and an all-access pass to Small Business sa国际传媒鈥檚 services.
