Take that, Ted. The foul-mouthed, over-size teddy bear who was the star of this summer's surprise box office hit has been drop-kicked by Cat-woman's slinky black getup and Thor from The Avengers in this year's Halloween costume derby.
Movie website Fandango said that a poll of 1,000 fans showed superheroes leading the most in-demand Hollywood-themed costumes, with characters from The Avengers claiming four of the top five spots among men.
Avengers' Chris Hemsworth's Thor came out on top, followed closely by Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man, Chris Evans' Captain America and Mark Ruffalo's Hulk.
Christian Bale's Batman from The Dark Knight Rises rounded out the top five. His co-star and Batman's nemesis/love interest Catwoman, played by Anne Hathaway in the most recent film, was the clear winner among female fans.
Jennifer Lawrence's bow-and-arrow-wielding Katniss from The Hunger Games placed second, followed by Kristen Stewart's Snow White and Charlize Theron's feathery Queen Ravenna from Snow White and the Huntsman.
"Hathaway's sexy turn as Cat-woman pushed the feline fatale back onto the list and straight to the top, besting arguably this year's most talked-about female character, Katniss Everdeen," Fandango editor-in-chief Chuck Walton said in a statement.
In the classic movie arena, good trumped evil for the top choice among women through the character of Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz. Running behind Dorothy were Cruella de Vil from 101 Dalmatians, Belle from Beauty and the Beast, Tinkerbell from Peter Pan and the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland.
Men overwhelmingly chose the ever popular, and relatively easy to throw together, Indiana Jones as their classic costume, followed by classic Batman, Dracula, The Joker from The Dark Knight and James Bond.
