The Liberals鈥� climate plan 鈥� and the party鈥檚 Victoria candidate 鈥� won an endorsement from a somewhat unexpected source Thursday: former sa国际传媒 Green Party leader Andrew Weaver.
The University of Victoria climate scientist said the Liberals have 鈥渢he only credible, science-aligned plan put forward by any party.鈥� He pointed to measures involving carbon pricing, permanent funding for public transit, a shift to zero-emission vehicles and the phasing-out of coal by 2030. 鈥淭his is a plan that reflects the urgency and scale of the crisis.鈥�
Weaver also praised the qualifications of Nikki Macdonald, an ocean science and climate researcher who is looking to unseat incumbent Laurel Collins, the NDP鈥檚 environment and climate critic, in the Victoria riding.

While on the subject: Voters in Esquimalt-Saanich-Sooke and Cowichan-Malahat Langford will get a chance to hear where their local candidates stand on the environment and climate change in a pair of live online debates Sept. 8.

Former Islander running in Halifax
A voice familiar to Vancouver Islander radio listeners is being heard on the other side of the country.
Jo-Ann Roberts is running for the Green Party in Halifax, just as she did in 2019. Prior to moving to Nova Scotia, she ran for the Greens in Victoria in 2015. Before that, she hosted CBC Radio鈥檚 All Points West from 2004-2014.
She served as the Greens鈥� interim leader from November 2019 to October 2020 while the party chose a successor to Elizabeth May.
