This year鈥檚 harvesting period (my 鈥渟quirrelly鈥� time) has been crowded with processing garden foods and storing them for winter meals.

Dear Helen: I have just come across information indicating that squashes grown on 鈥渧olunteer鈥� plants can be toxic. Why would they be, and could squashes grown from seeds I鈥檇 saved and planted also be toxic? C.L.

With the general shutdown early last spring, my hairdresser and her partner remained at home and created a food garden, complete with chickens.
