A march into history at a military bastion that has seen generations recruited and even a Joe Louis fight

Victorians walking downtown just over a week ago got an unexpected gesture of kindness — a flower to commemorate World Kindness Day. A Victoria group, KindnessYYJ, marked Friday the 13th by handing out 8,000 flowers all around downtown Victoria.

Ownership of Wildwood — a renowned 77-acre ecoforest near Cedar — will go to the Ecoforestry Institute Society in December under a recently signed agreement. The Land Conservancy of sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ has owned Wildwood since 2000.

There was a dramatic distinction to this year’s National Philanthropy Awards presentation at the Empress Hotel. It became more than the formal recognition of philanthropic individuals and organizations that make a difference in the lives of others.
