What: Quote-Along Airplane!

Where: Vic Theatre

When: Saturday, 8 p.m. (doors 7 p.m.)

The fine print: 19-plus.

Translation: Booze available. Advance sales only. Tickets, $10 plus HST. Available from boxoffice.victoriafilmfestival.com, or call 250-389-0444.

Why: And you thought Denzel Washington's alcoholic pilot in Flight had problems? Try being an "aviophobic" ex-fighter pilot (Robert Hays) who is enlisted to fly an airliner packed with as many disaster movie stereotypes as the 1980 comedy classic Airplane! Has groan-worthy sight gags and one liners. It's ideal fodder for Victoria Film Festival's quote-along fundraisers where moviegoers get to spout dialogue with the late Leslie Nielsen and the gang in high-flying silliness. You can even dress up as your favourite character. Inflatable dolls optional.

MUSIC

What: Palm Court Light Orchestra: Downton Abbey

Where: Farquhar Auditorium, UVic

When: Saturday, 7: 30 p.m.

Tickets: $31 regular, $12 student at UVic box office, 250-721-8480. Limited availability.

Why: By George, people love Downton Abbey. Why not jump into Edwardian-era Yorkshire - just like the characters on the hit BBC show - and move through the Roaring '20s with live accompaniment from the Palm Court Light Orchestra? The Abbey's aristocrats and servants would have known the tunes on this program well, from Arthur Sullivan's rollicking overture The Pirates of Penzance to Edward Elgar's popular salon piece Chanson de Matin. Sidney tenor Sunny Shams adds his voice. The concert moves to the Cowichan Theatre in Duncan Sunday afternoon and Sidney's Charlie White Theatre Tuesday.

What: The Coup

Where: Club 9ONE9

When: Sunday, 9 p.m.

Tickets: $7.80 at the Strathcona Hotel, Ditch Records, Lyle's Place, and ticketweb.ca

Why: I can't think of what $7.80 buys you these days, but a concert by Oakland, California's aggro-funk hybrid, The Coup, is probably tops on the list this weekend. The radical hip-hop collective, led by Boots Riley, is a can't-miss crew. And for the cost of a high-end latte, you have no good reason not to attend their Sunday night jam at Club 9ONE9.
