Be dazzled Saturday as the city's South Asian community celebrates Diwali - the festival of lights - one of the most important celebrations of the year for practicing Hindus.

The Victoria Hindu Parishad, organizer of the event, calls its Diwali Cultural Show one of the most beautiful musical spectacles in Victoria. It regularly attracts an audience of more than 1,000.

The evening's pro-gram includes a variety of Indian Bollywood, south Indian regional folk and classical dancing. There will also be bhangra, Hindi and Punjabi music. Performers include the Shiamak Davar Dance Group from Vancouver as well as several local artists.

Traditionally at Diwali, celebrants wear new clothes and share sweets with family and friends.

Tickets are $15. The show starts at 7 p.m. in the Farquhar Auditorium in the University Centre at the University of Victoria. Tickets are available at the UVic ticket centre. For more information, go to victoriahindutemple.com. For donations or sponsorship, call Jay Iyer 250-382-0329.
