Learn how to mix great drinks at a workshop Saturday.

Always wanted to learn how to make a killer martini? You might want to consider signing up for the Best Home Bartender Workshop on Saturday.

This interactive workshop will also prepare participants for the upcoming Best Home Bartender Competition at Art of the Cocktail on Oct. 13.

The free workshop will reveal vital tips and tricks on how to make a winning drink.

Instructor Simon Ogden, a master of mixology, will cover cocktail presentation and how to win the favour of the judges.

Both the workshop and competition are open to anyone who has never been a professional bartender.

In next week's competition, drink-makers have 10 minutes on stage to create five servings of a cocktail of their choosing - using maple syrup as one of the ingredients.

Contestants will not only be marked on the final taste of their cocktails, but on showmanship, knowledge of ingredients and techniques, and how they handle themselves behind a bar.

The workshop is free. The event starts at 3 p.m. Saturday at Veneto Tapas Lounge, 653 Pandora Ave. Registration is required.

To reserve your spot, call 250-389-0444 or contact sip@artofthe cocktail.ca.
