Ceremony awarding Royal Roads honorary degree postponed

A scheduled talk by Suzanne Simard at the university鈥檚 Dogwood Auditorium on Wednesday has also been cancelled.

Suzanne Simard will not receive an honorary degree from Royal Roads University this week as scheduled.

The university said Simard, a University of sa国际传媒 professor of forestry ecology and leader of the Mother Tree project, will not be able to attend convocation events due to the recent death of a close family member.

Royal Roads will work with Simard to reschedule her degree presentation after she has taken time to be with family, the university said in a statement to the sa国际传媒.

A scheduled talk by Simard at the university’s Dogwood Auditorium on Wednesday has also been cancelled.

Simard was recently named one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people in 2024.

Her memoir, Finding the Mother Tree, debuted on the New York Times bestselling list when it was first published in 2021.

About 750 Royal Roads graduates will cross the stage and receive their degrees in spring convocation ceremonies starting on Thursday.
