Crew members from a sa国际传媒 Ferries vessel helped rescue a boater who was being blown out to sea in a rowboat near Salt Spring Island on Thursday night.
The rowboat’s occupant had set off flares, sa国际传媒 Ferries said.
MV Quinsam, which normally provides service between Nanaimo and Gabriola Island, was notified about 10:30 p.m. by the Canadian Coast Guard.
After bringing the rowboat ashore, the sa国际传媒 Ferries crew members helped drain the vessel and towed the boater back to their sailboat, the company said.
The company noted that it’s the second marine rescue sa国际传媒 Ferries crews have executed this week.
The first was on Monday near the Tsawwassen ferry terminal, where a boater was spotted clinging to an overturned craft.
After being alerted by the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Victoria, sa国际传媒 Ferries staff deployed a work boat about 12:30 p.m. to bring the boater to shore.
He was taken to hospital and is expected to recover.
“We’re incredibly proud of [our crews’] professionalism and dedication to keeping people safe on the water,” sa国际传媒 Ferries said in a statement.
